A TechCrunch post introduced today a great new tool that helps developers to optimize their app store content and keywords for better results. The new service created by AppStoreHQ and called App Store Optimization Keyword Volume estimator is going to change the game rules for app developers and app marketers. Until now, when choosing the best keywords for an app listing, we had to either use Adwords Keyword Tool, Google Suggest, App Store Suggest Tool or just guess. Now we have the option to rely on actual search statistics. The only problem with this tool (which I guess is a temporary problem) is that it relies on data of several ”alternative” sources (such as Appolicious, AppStoreHQ). Obviously, the data that interests us the most is the search data from Android market and the App Store, but I guess it’s only a matter a time that this data will be available for us to use and analyze.

Also, you should know that TechCrunch offers a 3-months-free coupon code: TECHCRUNCH100

4 Ways to Engage with Website Visitors to Identify Why They Are Clicking the Back Button – Guest Post by Sam [...]

4 Ways to Engage with Website Visitors to Identify Why They Are Clicking the Back Button – Guest Post by Sam Mauzy

Clicking the “back” button is one of the biggest problems on a homepage. It typically means a user has decided to go back to the search results to go to another link. Because of this, it is important to know why visitors are choosing to go back to the previous page in order to seek out a different site. Sometimes it might be that your content is not really in line with what they are looking for while other times it might be a poor layout scenario. Finding out why people are abandoning your page is a great way to help you increase your conversion rate.

1. Ask the Question

You can design a line of code in your website so that a window pops up when someone tries to leave by pushing the back button or without otherwise converting the way you would like. In this pop up box you can specifically ask the user why they are choosing to leave. You might want to give them an open forum to type whatever they like or you might want to direct their answers to a multiple choice. Either way, this is a great way to find out why people are pushing the back button.

2. Make an Offer

When someone hits the back button, have another button pop up to show them one more thing on the website. This is another chance to turn the user into a conversion as well as a way to directly connect with them to find out why they were going to leave. If the user responds to the offer it can mean a variety of things such as the items are too expensive, they are not interested in your product or that they just needed a little something more in order to follow through. This data can then be logged and you can adjust your site accordingly.

3. Request an Email

If someone clicks away from your site, build a pop up that will instantly ask for their email. This not only gives you at least some contact information but also gives you a way to connect with them after the visit to ask why they did not purchase or what they were really looking for. This information can be a little more extensive then some of the other options and can help you refocus your energies on those who can truly be converted. This might mean adjusting your content.

4. Trackers

Trackers are a dangerous thing when it comes to gathering information, while you can open a secondary window that will see where your user is going off to. The risk you run in so doing is that many users get mad once they find a secondary window opened. They do not like these types of bugs and it might change a potential customer into a person never willing to come back to your site. Using KISSinsights is often better as it is a sliding question bar that elicits many responses.

Those are the 4 ways to engage directly with website visitors to identify what may be making them to click the Back button. At the same time, it is necessary to still carry out tests from time to time to know what works for them. Clicking the Back button means that you will not make any money through your website, and many of those clicking may never come back again. But if you give them the reason not to click it, you will see a lot of money coming in, even recommending your website to friends as a source of useful information.

Make sure to read first the Etsy store SEO guide part 1 and the Etsy store SEO guide part 2. [...]

Make sure to read first the Etsy store SEO guide part 1 and the Etsy store SEO guide part 2.

Third Step: Build Some Links!

What is the importance of links? Links are important for SEO because Google gives more significance (and therefore higher results) to sites that have a higher number of quality links (external and internal). Google will consider these sites more relevant than others in the search results for specific keywords.

What’s left to do now is start building some quality links for your Etsy store, preferably from external websites.

It’s not only the quality that matters, it’s the link text as well that makes the difference. If you create high-quality links that contain your main keywords in them, you are more likely to get higher results in Google.

So, how exactly you can create high-quality backlinks for your Etsy store?

Use your social media profiles – create a Facebook page for your store. This Facebook app for Etsy stores enables you to integrate your Etsy products in your Facebook professional page (special Facebook page for your business) and by doing that increases your exposure and drives more sales. You can use this page to insert links to your store, your store sections, present new deals to your customers and more. Also, you can use your own Facebook profile to promote new products (which means more quality links!). Insert links in other social profiles that you have as well – LinkedIn, YouTube etc.

Create your own blog – a blog is a great way to get better SEO results (since it contains much more content than a regular Etsy store). I recommend using WordPress as a blogging platform, especially since it is very easy to use, and you can integrate your Etsy shop within it in seconds (one WordPress plugin that you can use for example is the WordPress Etsy widget. Don’t forget to include your main keyword in the blog title, blog posts titles, item names and link texts.

Contact Bloggers - Creating string relationships with top bloggers that write about fashion, jewelry, or anything that relates to your craft can really make the difference. Make a list of relevant bloggers (use Google to search for them) and then start writing them. When you write, introduce yourself, offer special coupon codes for their readers, offer to write a blog post or anything else that will generate users interest, traffic, sales and links to your site. You can also look for interesting directories and places to submit your blog posts, treasuries or Etsy store links. For example, Handmadology.com offers you to submit your Etsy treasuries or submit your handmade related blog posts – Try it! Another tip is to approach your colleagues and fellows that have related blogs, Facebook pages or Etsy stores and exchange links with them.

Internal Linking Tips - Internal linking (from within Etsy) is also important to strengthen your search results. Here are some tips to create internal links to your store inside Etsy:

Leave comments Etsy articles and forums. Each comment you post is linked to your shop and that is also counted by the search engines.

Link to your shop page and shop section pages within each of your listings

Also, you should review this great list of 116 Places to promote your Etsy shop online, try to generate some more link building ideas from this is.

Fourth Step: Ongoing Optimization

After implementing you SEO strategy, don’t forget two important aspects of the SEO (not only Etsy SEO….):

1 – SEO is an ongoing process, always analyze your stats, your chosen keywords and your content – try to figure out what hurts and what improves your positions and traffic. Use Google Analytics for Etsy or any other Analytics service.

2 – Always review your competition – constantly check your keywords both in Google and in Etsy Search and track their marketing activity, content, tags etc. – try to figure out what they do to outperform.

One last thing, a great source for Etsy marketing tips can be found here.

Make sure your read the Etsy SEO guide Part 1 first! Second Step: Etsy Store Content Optimization Etsy Store Item [...]

Make sure your read the Etsy SEO guide Part 1 first!

Second Step: Etsy Store Content Optimization

Etsy Store Item titles – The item title should contain one of your main keywords, since Google considered this title as one of the most important content items in your page. Also, the first words will become a part of the item URL, which will also strengthen your product page for the keyword you chose. In addition, Google takes the item page title and considered it as the alt text of your item image – again, another SEO boost for your page.

Etsy Store Item Descriptions – The most important tip is to include the keyword in the first line of the description. That way you can insure that your main keyword will appear in Google search results.

Etsy tags – Even though Etsy tags have nothing to do with the Google search, you should include your main keywords in them. The reason is simple – people are likely to search for similar phrases when they use both Google search and Etsy search. It is is recommended to use all the 14 Etsy tags, to include in them your brand name, you main keywords, descriptive phrases of your products (“green”, “for toddlers” etc.) and a few other variations of your keywords. There are some blogs that recommend including tags such as geographic location (for those who search for nearby businesses) and periodical keyword s for holidays, special sales, Valentine’s Day etc. Another great tip is not using too generic keywords (for example, instead of “jewelry” try to use “handmade gold jewelry” etc.)

Etsy Shop Announcement – Your Etsy shop announcement is what defines the very SEO-valuable “meta description”. This is an important tag in your page’s code that Google indexes and therefore should contain your main keywords (and try to attract your client attention). Try to locate your main keywords closer to the front so they won’t get cut off by Google and searchers will present them in the results.

Etsy Shop Section Names – By locating your main keywords in these names, as close as possible to the beginning, you will have better chances to get higher Google search positions. However, try to avoid “Keyword Stuffing”, which sometimes can hurt your positions. I recommend choosing 2-3 main sections and insert the main keyword in them (not in all of them, this will be more of a keyword stuffing….).

For more info and for Etsy marketing services, contact me at: helloSEOgirl@gmail.com.

First Step: Keywords Research and competition Evaluation

Google isn’t only the most popular search engine, it is also a great tool to evaluate your competition. The fact that your main marketing channel is Etsy doesn’t mean that you can’t get a decent amount of traffic from Google, when your store or products pages will be indexed in its search results. In order

The first step would be to define the keywords your store’s content is going to be focused on. You should use both Google keywords tool and Google search itself to perform your initial Etsy store keyword research.

Using the Adwords keyword tool, you’ll be able to figure out what people are actually looking for (rather than what you think they’re looking for, which in most cases isn’t the same). This tool can give you search volume, competition and other interesting statistics for your inserted keywords and also generate some valuable keyword ideas for you.

The basic process should include the generation of an excel sheet (can be generated automatically using the Adwords keyword tool), containing relevant keywords. The next phase would be screening these keywords according to competition.

I recommend looking for niche keywords, which in most cased comprised of 2-3 words, and tend to have less traffic, but higher quality. These niche keywords/phrases are more likely to convert since people that use these keywords are more focused on what they want).

When using the Adwords Keyword Tool and Google Search for your Etsy store keyword research, you should consider the followings:

In both the Adwords keywords tool and in Google search, use “phrase match” and “exact match” when researching, it will give you much more accurate search volume and competition data. (More info about keywords matched in here).

When using the Adwords keyword tool, you should be logged in when using this tool, there are people who claim that the data is more accurate when doing so.

The search volume – this parameter in the Keywords tool defines the amount of people searching per month for this term on Google. This number should be high enough to show potential but low enough to be considered (not too competitive).

Competition – This parameter should be considered along with the search volume. The competition parameter in the Adwords keyword tool defines how competitive this specific keyword is to bid on Google Adwords. This is your first hint – Adwords ads running for a specific keyword reveal a commercial potential. Next, go to Google Search and search for your keyword using phrase match. Review how many search results there are (should be around 20K-40K), what is the strength of the first results (consider page ranks, domain strength etc.). If you believe at this point that you’re able to reach the first page for this keyword – Go For it!

After using these two research tools, go back to Etsy and search for these keywords – is there a lot of competition? Do the first results seem optimized for this keyword?

By now you should be left with up to 2-3 main keywords, preferably synonyms or at least related phrases (it will be easier to optimize). If your Etsy store has multiple store sections, you should research for the best keyword for each of them (which means, a longer list).

Make sure not to miss the Etsy store SEO guide part 2, and the Etsy SEO guide last parts.

This week I attended TEDx Tel Aviv, for the first time in Israel. The experience was breathtaking.

First of all the presentations were touching, the people that talked there were very unique and did some amazing things in their lives. I was especially moved by a presentation of the principal of the “Bialik” school in Tel Aviv, a school for children of immigrants. The children also sang on stage later and everyone almost cried…

The atmosphere and the connections that were created between people were also amazing and I really felt that I could talk to anyone there, no matter how important or wealthy the people there were.

I urge you to look for videos from the conference and to enjoy them as I did….

Get your content into shape

Extend your brand beyond digital

Measure results

Make money

I think this idea is very unique, the question is – is this sustainable? is this idea scalable? how many years are people still going to keep printing stuff from the internet? They actually raised 2.6M Euros from BNP Paribas Private Equity and XAnge in July 2009 – interesting!

Twitter plans to launch business tools and services by the end of the year to help businesses serve their customers, and may charge feesfor this kind of services.

These are great news for the web marketing community. Now we will have official channels to market our online brands, and maybe even statistice opportimoties, branding possibilities, advertising and who knows…

I think that until now there was no such thing as a “Twitter strategy”. All you had to do was as a brand marketer using Twitter was try to get as much followers as possible and provide some quality content to your followers. I hope the new Twitter business tools will be useful and help marketers to develop brand presence in a much efficient way.
