Google Insights for Search – Follow the trends
Google Insights for search is a great tool for advertisers, marketers and entrepreneurs. You can follow the trends in search (which means you can know what the world finds interesting).
The real added value of this tool to my opinion are the comparison possibilities. You can compare between specific time periods, countries, categories and create combined filters. Above all that, if there are significant changes, Google can track in most of the cases the events or causes for the gaps. This is a very sophisticated cross-checking of lots of information. I think that this can only mean that Google know about us a lot more than we think they know.
Let’s see an example; I compared the worldwide search for the term “Israel” between the the years 2007 and 2008. The gaps in the searches were explained to me by Google as the visit of Bush and the returning of the two kidnapped Israeli soldiers bodies. (You can see below).
Use this tool to make analysis and to learn whether the market is ready to your product or to the service your are about to supply. Also, if you already run a business, follow the trends and changes and try to always be up to date.

Google Insights for Search is indeed a good tool to play around with and get some extra data and will appeal greatly to those of us that don’t have access to more comprehensive market research–which is probably 99% of us – but I’d caution building your entire marketing campaign around the data provided by Google Insights.
For example, I checked for iPhone on Google Insights for Search and what i got is that there’s more interest for the iPhone in Trinidad and Tobago than in the United States. I guess not
